Vincent Orange is proposing a limit of 2 four year terms for most DC elected officials. I am not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand it’s good to have turnover in city government but we will lose expertise. There are not a lot of opportunities for elected officials in DC – there are no state positions to move up to so we end up with officials who sit in their positions for a while. There is always the argument that we lose valuable experience. I am not sure but I think since the City Council is not a seniority based organization (for committees, etc) it might be nice to see fresh faces and avoid the “-for-life” appellation.
