Here is an idea I always thought we should take advantage of: DC as tax shelter. Since DC is a District and Congress and various states refuse to consider us otherwise, we should seek out economic and political advantages to being a District. Puerto Rico has no income tax, why can’t we? Eleanor Holmes Norton proposed a bill that would encourage Insurance companies to set up in DC. Bermuda has long taken advantage of it’s offshore status to attract these companies just as Cayman has. They employ thousands of employees to construct the administration of these entities. Why can’t the District?
Call the bluff of congress: If we can’t be a state, then we want to take advantage of not being one.
