More about building in the neighborhood. I spoke of the Howard Theater opening last spring to much praise. I wish the city could replicate the success with the Lincoln Theater but alas I think it’s too late to be a theater. DC has offered the Lincoln for a 10 year lease but unless there is major renovation done, it won’t be a viable venue.
But back to the Howard, behind the new theater is the fantastic Wonder Bread factory. It was a big wreak for many year but now it looks as though they have strong plans to develop it as office space assuming the builders can continue to finance the operation.http://dcmud.blogspot.com/2012/11/today-in-pictures-wonder-bread-building.html
Also next to Howard is the new Progression Place. A tribute to the work of Myla Moss and many community activists that have push pulled and begged to keep the project alive. The UNCF office space seems almost done and now the apartments building skin is almost complete. It will be a great addition to the neighborhood. If only the Howard Town Center could be approved to give us a grocery store! http://dcmud.blogspot.com/2011/02/shaw-developers-celebrate-step-forward.html
