Are you using clean energy? Clean Currents, the wind powered electricity provider, has offered to donate $30 per household and $250 per business who signs up for their wind powered electricity.
Welcome le Diplomat to the hood. I have heard good things about this place – even that it will open for breakfast! No doubt they want to become the power breakfast meeting spot for the hood. The owners spent $6.5M renovating this building so they are in for the long haul. I can only hope they open 24 hours like the old Au Pied du Couchon in Georgetown, one of my lifelong favorites.
Another addition, the tex mex restaurant at 14th & T streets look about ready to open and not there will be another wine bar type opening there too. We’re waiting for the Piola Pizza right there.
This guy at Greater Greater Washington is delusional if he thinks some of these pop ups are worthwhile. And moving the FBI next to Gonzaga Prep? Dumb. Have you read the requirements for a new bomb safe building?

Interesting: Counties that are bigger than whole states. How about unrepresented districts bigger that 3 states with senators.
It seems that people are finally taking my warnings seriously. There is a coming deluge of apartments coming to DC that cannot be good. Just as the announce another building for 14th & Corcoran. And 2800 about to be delivered.
Educate yourself: About historic districts. Where to get legal maraijuana. learn about appraisals and comps, how DC’s low skyline helps our property values.
RE highlights: W14 floor plans, Marions Barry’s old home sells. The Louis at 14th looks massive. and that crazy huge apartment owned by GW sells for near asking. Go figure.
The new building at the foot of the hill at 14th & Florida is going on sale. Funny how the picture does not show the larger buildings looming behind it.
Union Market – worth checking out if you have not been – will have 200 condos nearby. I am not sure if that is a good idea given the rough neighborhood around it. But that was once said of the Baseball Park area in SE which is now booming. Near Union market they are also redeveloping the Uline Arena which will make for a cool new space. Here’s another view.
I love the idea of building in the alleyways of DC but you need extra large access ways. Naylor Court fits that bill nicely
Following on my comments of last week. DC market is crazy and everyone just needs to calm down and wait until some of the 25k of new units open up. Something to always to watch for: Condo Fees. but in DC buying is cheaper that renting.
OK not the latest but at least the highlights.
Borderstan is always trying to help us live better as a community. There is farmers market etiquette and here are lists of the best brunch spots in the hood and outdoor patios. After brunch you can go to the Paint & Sip on U street and see if all the champagne helps awaken your inner artist.
The city council race for Ward One is looking competitive! The primary is not until next year but already there are three big contenders. The incumbant Jim Graham, Bryan Weaver who came pretty close 4 years ago and Brianne Nadeau who I support.
That weird warehouse on 14th south of S will not be a restaurant to further complicate parking problems but hopefully it will be better looking than the current facade. Nearby there will be a tapas themed restaurant in the old Bodysmith yard. B also has a review of an Italian restaurant that I did not even know was there.
I have to say I was shocked when I drove by this “work of art” that rode on a flatbed around the city yesterday. I’m glad to see it was only art and not the result of a menacing encounter.
I go through the blogs one at a time that is why it seems that I only have one source but look at it this way – at least you don’t have to go through the afternoon pet shots.
Lots of restaurants going in by the convention center. I am sure in expectation of the new Marriott coming. Thally is on 9th and should open this summer. Looks interesting. Table is open and supposedly good but what about their dumpster. I like the way they hid it. I have not been to A D yet but I didn’t know it was a restaurant. Plus they are getting a new barber shop in the old le slum historique building.
Excited for the brew pub coming in by the Howard right around the corner from the new Wonderbread building which is coming right along. Im exciedt for the new Mediterranean restaurant going in across from Town on 8th Street.
1900 Vermont is in its second phase and looks good. And check out this new building at 7th & Varnum. They did a nice job. Fraziers funeral home has been transformed as well at 4th & Florida.
Sweetgreen, a store I’ve never actually be to despite living behind the owners, is opening in the new W14. Which is near the new Piola Pizzaria. Across the street there will be TexMex at the old AM/PM but I wonder what will happen to the guys who hang out there. The old Latino Car lot is now broken ground for the new development going in there. Le diplomat on 14th is also poised to open. I saw a soft open last on Friday and the space looks great.
Vinoteca opens its new outdoor deck with hot dogs and bubbly? Two tastes I never foresaw together. If you’re taking a date there, you can buy flowers at a new florists at 16th & U.
Thankfully none of these compare the the new 800 seat Joe’s Seafood going in downtown. Can anyone say Tourist trap for school tours?
Check out the new soccer field (or should I say football?) that UAE and Manchester City of the Premium league is donating to Adams Morgan
Busy week but here is what I think is the most important news for U Street:
All three ANCs in the U Street area voted against the liquor moratorium
Remember that crazy gas station next to the Watergate that sold gas for $6 per gallon at least a doller more than anyone else nearby? Well Valero has taken it over and the gas price is actually reasonable.
This is a lovely F you in my neighborhood. Many thanks to neighbor Drew for pointing out that it looks like the middle finger at the hood.
Finally they started on the streetcar again. Spend 2 years destroying the street then wait 2 years before you actually use it? That’s smart. Also smart? DC having the most expensive beer of any ballpark in the National league.
Follow up to my posting earlier this week, another article about the market that is too hot. I should note that I think that is only for homes that are completely updated not homes that need work.
